Are You Going To The Dark Side?

11 10 2007

According to E!, dark roots are the latest edgy hair trend. Personally, I think it looks a bit tacky, but since I”m unintentionally rocking it right now, I’m all for it. The latest fad is dark roots, lighter hair. I’m not sure how long this will last. Quite frankly, people have been doing this for ages. I’m not really sure when it became cool. If dandruff and split ends become a trend, I’m ALL set!

Some celebs are already onboard:

Amanda Bynes

Aubrey O’Day

Keira Knightley

Madonna

Nicole Richie

Paris Hilton

Sarah Jessica Parker

Shakira

America’s Next Top Model Season 9 Makeovers

11 10 2007

I think these by far were the blahest makeovers I’ve seen in awhile. Noone went really drastic except Bianaca who they covered up with a wig. I think she looks fabulous with the brush cut. For everyone else, they either did color, plain cut, or nothing. The girls do look much better with their upgrades.

My top 5 choices are Lisa, Saleisha, Ebony, Janet & Heather. I’m going with a Heather or Lisa win!

Here are the pictures!

This gives you a good example of what tonight will entail. I can’t wait! I’ll have all the real pics up tomorrow.

Fall’s Most Popular Looks: 3 of 5

10 10 2007

Fall’s look for today is mid-length layers. Yet another favorite of mine, because I’m sure this will be my next look in the never-ending phase of letting my hair grow out. This is yet another look I love, because once you get it cut, you just wake up and go. For those of you like me that can’t achieve this look naturally, use a large barrel curling iron for this deep body wave look. Here are a few of our favorite celebs with look#3.

Eva’s look can be achieved by simply holding the curling iron vertically and creating a loose curl.

Kristin goes more for the simple layered look. The key to Kristin’s look is sidesweep she does with her bang. For the look in picture number 2, simply curl your hair opposite of how you normally would… that one seems pretty self-explanatory, but you’d be surprised!

To achieve Elisha’s look, wrap the hair around the curling iron as if you were creating a spiral look. The tighter the spiral the better. You will then want to finger through the sprials to give the hair lift.

Two-Toned Hair Styles

10 10 2007

Make sure to check out the new blog for hair style tips like this and MORE!

I decided to dedicate the day to hair coloring! One trend I’d like to explore is two-toned hairstyles. This concept consists of one color on the top and another on the bottom. In most cases, I’ve seen the lighter color on top. I’ve actually experimented with this look and have gotten TONS of compliments. I’m thinking of going lighter and more drastic as my hair gets longer.

Here are a few examples:

Includes Beyonce,Keyshia Cole, Trisha (Real World) and a few randoms!

Fall’s Most Popular Looks: 2 of 5

9 10 2007

Fall Look #2 is the Curly Girly :)

If you’re lucky enough to have the length, go for the fun, just rolled out of bed look. All this look requires is a blow dryer, a bit of texture creme, and a bit of pomade for hold Simply twist very small pieces of hair around your finger and you’re on your way. Remember, you WANT the Bed Head look here. We want to pretend that this was effortless, so the wilder the better!

Here are a few stars rocking this style:

Alli Larter (Heroes)

Kiele Sanchez

Jessica Biel

Product Question: Bed Head Flat Iron

9 10 2007

One of my readers had an interesting product question about Bed Head’s Flat Iron Straightener. I personally haven’t used this product, but I did my research for you. Hands down, my belief is that if you are going to spend 69.99 on a Bed Head flat iron, I would spend the extra 30 bucks on a CHI flat iron. Yahoo Answers is a great tool for getting these types of questions answered. I found the following reviews:

  1. “I used my friends …. it [Bed Head Flat Iron] sucks!I have a chi and it is MUCH MUCH MUCH better. “
  2. “I totally agree that bed head styling products are amazing but I don’t care for their flat irons-get a Chi flat iron and spend the extra cash-I’ve tried lots of different name brands both professional and non-professional and Chi irons ROCK!!!!”
  3. “i have the bedhead magenta colored straightner and i hate it to me it straightens it but it dosent give my ends that razor sharp look and it gets wavy at the middle/end and my hair isnt even curly”

I have personally used a CHI and I’m definitely a fan. As soon as I get some extra cash, I’m definitely getting one. Worried about the cost of the CHI?? Here are a few sites that have the CHI for under 100:

- StyleBell
- Overstock
- Amazon
- eBay (make sure the seller has high feedback!)

True Tresses?

8 10 2007

First, let me clear up the confusion… this is a new segment on natural locks vs. extensions. I’ve gotten tons of emails regarding styles I post as to whether the styles are ingrown or purchased. I want to preface this by saying I’m not knocking it either way. I’m a fan of extensions, in fact my lovely stylist Tasharra is adding some for me this week! I’d also like to add that I have no proof either way, I’m just guessing and I’d love some reader input.

Today’s lesson, tresses: a long lock of hair. Thus, this segment will be True Tresses!

Ok, now that you’ve been educated, let’s move on to the good stuff.

Gabrielle – I’m going with al natural. This grade, color, and style have been consistent on Gabby.

Jessica – When pigs fly! That piece in the back is clearly not hers. It’s a completely different color. In addition, she made this one kind of easy. Check out Jessica’s hair extension line.

Kimora Lee is Fabulous

8 10 2007

I’m hooked on Kimora’s reality show. At first I thought she was a spoiled, brat who couldn’t have made it without her hubby, but she’s definitely holding her own and HEY she’s got me watching. I’m a fan of hair! I’ll never have it unless I buy some, but I can still adore it….

My favorite is the big, sexy, curly look in pic 2. I’m glad we didn’t see much of that blond look.
