The Good, The Bad, The Ugly: Heidi Montag

24 04 2008

The Good:
You can achieve Heidi’s look in the picture below. Her layers were cut through the mid lengths to ends, to add definition and create movement to her style. This was a great full bodied style, perfect for those with long face shapes.

The Bad:
In this case, bad means HOT! This is Heidi’s best hairstyle yet. She kept things simple and sophisticated here.

The Ugly:
This is an old picture of Heidi (Laguna Beach days) and I’m glad she’s upgraded! All it took was a bottle of Blonde-o-Matic and a nose job!

Ode To My Pink CHI

23 04 2008

Much to my surprise, my first IM chat of the morning was:

ThatGirl: hot mama… your hair looks good.
DiscoveringHair: REALLY?? :)
ThatGirl: yea. what’d u do? me likey
DiscoveringHair: bought some new hair… nah j/k. I used my new PINK CHI. I told u the color made all the difference. My pink CHI smashed your Glacier Ice, lol
DiscoveringHair: lmao
ThatGirl: well it’s super cute.
DiscoveringHair: thanx

And that was the start of my super cool day. I went through my same ritual of waking up, knocking the alarm clock off the dresser, going back to sleep for 30 more minutes, showering, unwrapping my hair, flat-ironing and rushing out the door to get to work before 9. Not ONCE have I been called a hot mama. What was different today… my Pink CHI. At first, I thought it was hype, but I’m a believer. The CHI gave me more body and sheen than my hair has ever had. I had a “just out of the salon” feel for the day. I’m very impressed. I haven’t had a relaxer in 6+ weeks and my roots feel extremely straight, my hair has a nice glow, and less me forget.. I’m a hot MAMA :)

The Asymmetrical Bob..Survey Says??

21 04 2008

Jada Pinkett and Da Brat have for some odd reason decided to follow in the footsteps of D Woods. I’m not feeling this look at all. Jada’s by far looks the best, but I still don’t get why you’d want THAT much difference in the length of your hair. I’m not feeling it. I’m going to search for another picture, but thus far, survey says…..HATED IT!

D Woods

I was there for the cuts, so I thought I’d share.

Blow Drying Your Hair

21 04 2008
Celebrity Hairdresser’s Tips: Blow Drying Your Hair!
Karen Marie Shelton
Revised 11/24/06 – Original Publication Date: 03/06/2006 -

Introduction

Although blow drying hair seems like it should be a simple undertaking there can be a lot of hidden gotchas that result in home blow outs that are less than salon perfect.

Why? I asked three famous hair pros – Ken Paves (Jessica Simpson, Eva Longoria, Brittany Murphy), Robert Hallowell (Geena Davis, Mary Louise Parker, Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Paul Mitchell Premiere Educator, Barbara Lhotan, to share their blow drying secrets.

I specifically asked each of the hair experts why blow outs, whether to create straight, curly or wavy styles, always seem to look so much better when done by a professional.

Ken Paves who wears his famous red blow dryer literally slung like a gun from his belt explained that “the trick to perfect blow outs is using the right styling products and learning how to use the right sized brushes in conjunction with the blow dryer for the desired results”.

Robert Hallowell commented that “there are lots of short cuts he uses every day” because he works on the set of Commander In Chief in a cramped little hair and makeup trailer and that “perfect blow outs take lots of practice, which professionals have because they blow dry hair every day”. Robert pointed out that it is “always easier to get great blow outs when someone else is doing them for you”.

Barbara Lhotan laughed and confessed that “even she doesn’t get her hair as stick straight or sleek as when it is done by a fellow stylist”. The reason? There are several reasons and secrets about blow drying that Barbara (along with Ken and Robert) agreed to share in the steps below:

Choosing the Right Professional Hair Dryer

21 04 2008

Professional Hair Dryer Is a $200 hair dryer really better than a $20 hair dryer? The answer may surprise you. While most hair dryers today boast numerous “features” that look appealing to consumers, salon quality dryers really are different.Do you really need a better quality hair dryer? Well, it depends – do you really need healthy, strong hair that isn’t brittle or frayed? We think paying a little more for a quality hair dryer is a reasonable investment.

Let’s break down some of the features you should look for in a quality hair dryer – and more importantly, why.
