Dr. Miracles Challenge – Rid Your Hair of Damage!

24 09 2009

One of my problem areas is the nape of my neck. When my hair was short, I kept this hair tapered in the back and I have completely damaged it. I can tell that WHEN it grows, it grows a lot slower than the rest of my hair. The top of my hair has started grwing really quicky and is almost covering the nape. Although it will be covered, I still need to focus on this area. After thinking about it, this part of my hair was relaxed more than the rest of my hair and it was most likely the least taken care of because there wasn’t much to “style.” I decided tonight that I’m going to make this a focal point in my hair growth and give it some TLC.

I’m going to see if Dr. Miracle’s is up to the challenge!

I need to think a bit about my regimen and I’ll post it later this week, but I’ll be using these products.

Keeping Up With Khloe Kardashian – She’s Getting Married!

24 09 2009
Another one bites the bust…the publicity stunt dust that is. With the Kardashians…first comes sex tape, then comes love, then comes break up, then comes baby carriage, then comes marriage, then comes Season 3…I DIE! I’m a Kardashian fan, but the truth is the truth! Anyhoo, this is a hair blog, so I’ll keep it moving.Khloe Kardashian confirmed on her blog that she is set to wed NBA Star, Lamar Odom, this weekend. “Hi dolls,” the Kourtney & Khloé Take Miami star wrote on her Celebuzz blog Tuesday. “I’m thrilled to finally be able to tell you that the news is true…Lamar and I are getting married on Sunday!!! I couldn’t be happier and I’m so excited that I can finally share the news with all of you.”Your well wishes have meant the world to me and I am truly so blessed to have such amazing fans, family and friends during this incredible time in my life.”

Khloe recently underwent a drastic weight loss.. kudos to her! and she’s been seen on the scene rocking several different hair styles.

Of the looks, I like Khloe as a brunette and I prefer her with the full hair with lots of volume. Pic 1 is nice and really frames her face and brings out her dark, beautiful eyes. I’m actually in LOVE with the 3rd picture and wish she’d go for something more risky like this on an everyday basis. I really this look isn’t an everyday style, but I’d like to see her with something less status quo. Pic 2 is WAY too dark and she practically blends into the background and Pic 4, let’s face it..it’s just too much like Kim and Kourtney for me.

How does Khloe keep her locks so luscious? “I love Kerastase and all of their products. Once a week I use a deep conditioner on my hair by Kerastase because I get my hair done so much. I have naturally curly hair and I always blow it out.” (http://beautyinterviews.com)

Survey Says (Courtesy of Discoveringhair reader – Sabrina D.):

  1. What did you like most about the product? Superior curl definition. I had defined ringlets all over even in the top of my head which tends to be frizzier and lacks curl definition.
  2. What did you like least about the product? The first time I used it I think I used too much because when it dried my hair was crunchy. The second time I tried it I used less product and loved the results.
  3. What end result were you seeking when you used this product? I was looking for a product that would enhance curl definition and provide a soft hold because my hair tends to be frizzy when it dries especially in the top.
  4. Did you achieve that goal? Yes
  5. Did you feel that the cost of the product matched the results? I’m newly natural and haven’t purchased many styling products yet, but I do think it is priced reasonably. I think it’s worth it because a little product goes a long way and more importantly it actually delivers the promised result on the bottle.
  6. Would you use this product again?Yes I would definitely use it again
  7. Will you add it to your normal hair cocktail? I haven’t decided to add it my normal routine yet but I’m seriously considering it.
  8. How did you use the product? There was a demo video on their website. I sectioned my hair into appox 7 sections and finger combed product through hair from root to ends and let it air dry. The only thing I did different from the video was I used a dime sized amount of product per section because when I used the quarter sized amount my hair was hard and crunchy.

Stretch Your Relaxer Challenge – A New Member

22 09 2009

When was your last relaxer? June 4th

How many weeks post relaxer are you
? 12 going on 13 weeks

How long do you think you can stick it out? Due to the over processing of my hair in the past, i’ve been experiencing alot of breakage so I made the decision to go natural, meaning getting rid of all the chemically treated hair, I love my relaxed hair, but it just isn’t  healthy.

How are you managing all that new growth? Lol a whole lot of moisturizing, when I wash my hair I only use conditioner, I believe it’s called a co-wash, and I’ve been doing alot of air drying, havent used heat in my hair for almost 9 months….amen! And i’ve also been doing alot of transitional styles bantu knots, straw sets, and the go to ponytail/bun.

Are you currently encountering challenges with this challenge? YESSSSS consistency, sometimes I get so lazy when it comes to my weekly routine but im slowly getting used to it, you would think by now I would have it under control but its alot of work repairing damaged hair!

What’s your ultimate goal? I just want healthy, strong hair!

Your reason sounds VERY similar to mine, I was processing my hair to death (literally). Oct. 4th will be 12 weeks for me and I feel like I’m going to cave in soon. I’m not planning on going fully natural, I’m just trying to stretch my relaxers out more, so that I can reduce the amount of chemicals I’m putting on my hair.  I applaud you for not using heat for 9 months… SHEESH! I’d be somewhere hiding in a corner after 9 months. A week of no heat is a challenge for me. I’m a new fan of the cowash and I’ve been using Jojoba Oil for biweekly deep conditions. I can’t tell that’s it working a miracle on my hair. Thanks for sharing with our readers and keep me posted on your progress!!!

Is Our HAIR To Please Him?

1 09 2009

I’ve had billions of conversations with my girls about hair and dating – should I tell him it’s a weave? what happens if he tries to run his fingers through my hair? How do you “do the do” and keep your hair/scarf in tact? He likes long hair, but I want my hair short… I’ve heard em all.

Which leads to the question.. is our hair to please him? We work out, wear his favorite color, get mani-pedis, wear his favorite perfume, etc.. easy right. Those are easy because they are all interchangeable. Your hair is permanent and when he’s not around, you have to look at yourself and that hair in the mirror.

I have had a wide variety of mates from Mr. I love your hair any way you style it, the I want your hair short guy, the we shouldn’t both be going to the barber shop so let it grow out guy, and the guy who requested cornrows (the jury is still out on him)! And to be honest, I’ve taken all of the feedback into consideration. I’ve never done a drastic change like a chop or bra strap extensions, but I do always keep in mind the things that I can control. When I met my boyfriend, my hair was SUPER short and I’m going through my stage of letting it grow and I even still ask myself should I keep it short.. I mean that IS how he met me right?

I read an interesting post of a girl going natural and she contemplated wearing her hair curly or if she should straighten it, because she didn’t know how her hair would be received.

So, I pose the question to you, is our hair to please him? How far would you go with your hairstyles to please your mate?
